MILITARIA SHOP

This is the shop I mentioned.

Is is situated in the old town of Rethymnon.
The address is Souliou 40, the guy's name is George Papalexakis
His tel. number if you need further instructions hot ot reach there is 28310-54835.

I think you will like what you find there. Plenty of items.
Also please mention my reference. I am the guy who lives in Heraklion.

Fo you that you are or you will visit Crete I think it is worth the trouble to pay him a visit.
Also he is one of the best artisans and creates handmade musical instruments of folk music like Lyras. If interested check these too.

Hope you find what you are looking. Feel free to share with me your comments.

Interesting. Not quite the subject but I was in Crete for a short time in mid-1946 on special assignment as a captain with the British army. I stayed at the consulate villa. I was particularly friendly with the British Police Mission officer -- Major Parkyn -- and his daughter. She had a Cretan boy friend -- he was an excellent photographer and, in fact, had a Leica. I have a photo of us together. I often wonder if the ever married? Anyone I could contact to find out? Would appreciate your help. Patrick

As per your request for help, as this matter seems quite interesting I will try to check very quickly two sources I have, my grandmother and the curator of the Historical Museum of heraklion.
Maybe he can help too. Have you by the way heard the name of Commandant Meidert? Ha was the German commander of the Heraklion airfield during occupation.
More info on him will be very helpful, or if you can forward me to a source...
Let's stay in touch to see what we can find. Where can I contact you?
